A citizen in Elazığ experienced a great shock when he went to a jeweler to cash in wedding jewelry. The majority of the quarter, half, full, and gram gold pieces turned out to be low-carat second prints, while two gram gold were completely fake. Jeweler Muhammed Özdemir called on tradesmen and newlyweds to be cautious against fake jewelry, noting that such irregularities are common, especially in gold coming from neighboring provinces.
When wedding excitement was overshadowed by fake gold, a citizen in Elazığ became victim. Most of the gold jewelry was substandard production and low carat, while two of the gram gold pieces turned out to be fake. The jeweler said, “My customer experienced a complete shock,” inviting both colleagues to use analysis machines and citizens to have their gold checked at reliable places.
SHOCKING STATEMENT FROM THE JEWELER
Describing the incident, jeweler Muhammed Özdemir said, “Today, a friend brought the jewelry from his wedding, and when we checked them, unfortunately, we saw that most of the gold had issues. Especially quarters, halves, Reşat gold, and full golds appeared to be non-standard second prints. In fact, the Reşat golds had their carat reduced to 21, and we also detected serious problems in the gram gold he brought. My customer experienced complete shock.”
Özdemir stated that the citizen did not want to appear on camera and said he would send the problematic gold for analysis.
“WE OFTEN ENCOUNTER THIS WITH THOSE FROM NEIGHBORING PROVINCES”
Emphasizing that the Elazığ Chamber of Jewelers tightly controls inspections, Özdemir said, “We keep our inspections very strict. We try to minimize this fake, second-print issue in the city. However, we frequently encounter this problem, especially with full and republic gold coming from neighboring provinces.”
The jeweler advised his colleagues to have analysis machines and also warned citizens to have their wedding jewelry checked at trusted jewelers.
