CHP Chairman Özgür Özel performed the Eid al-Adha prayer at the Hatuniye Mosque in his hometown Manisa. After the prayer, Özel exchanged greetings with citizens and made striking statements regarding the agenda.
Responding to journalists' questions in Manisa, Özel evaluated the ongoing process within the CHP and also answered the question, "Will you establish a new party?"
“OUR 81 PROVINCIAL CHAIRS SAY ELECTION”
Stating that they want the election to be held as soon as possible within the party, Özel said, "We want the election to be held as soon as possible in our party. Our 81 provincial chairs, all our members, everyone is calling for an election."
Calling on Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, Özel stated: “We hope Kılıçdaroğlu will not attempt to lead a party without coming to power through an election. The way to the convention is very clear. I have a call to him. Let the general chair be determined by the decision of our 2 million members. I am ready for whatever delegate system he wants for the election. This would set a very good example for Turkey, and all debates would end.”
“NO ONE SHOULD LEAVE THEIR PARTY”
Noting that there are calls for resignations within the party, Özel gave a message of unity to CHP members. Özel said, "There are those saying let us resign. No one should leave their party or resign. We will resolve this issue one way or another."
Speaking about reactions to figures who did not support them in the past, Özel stated, “The absolute decision is a milestone. Those who stood by the button after that day are buttonists; we have no emotional bond with them. However, everyone who showed solidarity with us after that date is our friend.”
“WE WILL NOT ESTABLISH A NEW PARTY”
Responding clearly to claims of a new party, Özel said, “At this stage, there is no need for anyone to leave. We have no intention of establishing a new party.”
