The claim that the expenses of the luxury official vehicle used by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel were covered by the Uşak Municipality caused a sharp controversy in the parliament's general assembly. While AK Party Uşak MP İsmail Güneş alleged that the VIP equipment costs of the vehicle were paid by a company affiliated with Uşak Municipality, CHP's Murat Emir firmly denied these claims. Güneş stated, "If a document is presented proving that the expenses were paid by the CHP, I will apologize."
The controversy over the luxury official vehicle used by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel grew with mutual statements in the General Assembly of the Turkish Grand National Assembly. A sharp confrontation occurred between AK Party Uşak MP İsmail Güneş and CHP Deputy Group Chairman Murat Emir.
AK PARTY'S GÜNEŞ: COST COVERED BY THE MUNICIPALITY
AK Party's İsmail Güneş, speaking outside the agenda in the General Assembly, claimed that the VIP equipment expenses of the vehicle used by Özgür Özel were covered by a social facilities company affiliated with Uşak Municipality. Güneş, alleging that a total expenditure of 7 million 754 thousand TL was made, showed the invoices in his possession from the rostrum.
In his statement, Güneş stated that an Istanbul-based company issued two separate invoices for 6 million 856 thousand TL and 896 thousand TL, saying, "The invoices contain expressions regarding the interior equipment of the Mercedes Benz vehicle. The engine and chassis numbers match the vehicle shared by the CHP Headquarters. This vehicle belongs to Özgür Özel."
Güneş also requested payment documents from the CHP, stating, "If documents proving the expenses were paid by the CHP are presented, I will apologize."
CHP'S EMİR: A SMEAR CAMPAIGN IS BEING CONDUCTED
Responding to the claims of AK Party's Güneş, Murat Emir described the statements in question as a "smear campaign." Emir, defending that the vehicle's equipment was covered by the CHP Headquarters' own means, reacted by saying, "We are presenting the invoices. Despite this, a bank transfer is being requested. By what authority are you asking us for such a document?"
