The complimentary offerings symbolized by intercity buses, such as free snacks and drinks, are fading into history due to the financial burden created by rising fuel prices and multiplying operational expenses. While the lavish presentations of the past are being replaced by only water service, many companies have completely eliminated this service.

The tradition of complimentary services in the intercity bus sector across Turkey, which has continued for many years, has reached the point of completely disappearing under the pressure of increasing operational costs.

MANY COMPANIES HAVE COMPLETELY DISCONTINUED IT

The food and beverage services, which were once offered to passengers with a wide range of options, first lost their variety in recent years due to economic developments, and then became limited to only water and limited snacks. At the point reached today, it is observed that many companies have decided to completely discontinue this service.

THE REASON IS INCREASING COSTS

Industry representatives state that the most important underlying reason for this radical change is that the continuous increase in fuel prices has significantly narrowed profit margins. In addition, rising personnel expenses and increases in general operating costs are forcing companies to get rid of additional burdens in order to survive.

Especially on short-distance routes, the complete disruption of the cost-benefit balance of complimentary services has led to the removal of this service first on short trips, while also causing the comfort offered on long journeys to be reduced to a minimum.

"AIRLINE MODEL" ON THE WAY

In the future, it is expected that a model similar to air transportation will become standard on highways as well. This new system, in which many companies plan to offer only complimentary water and sell all other food and beverages for a fee, is causing debates among passengers on the grounds that comfort has decreased.

Although there is no official regulation covering the entire sector yet, if the cost pressure continues, it is considered certain that complimentary services will completely become history and be replaced by a paid service approach.
