The Kahramanmaraş Republic Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that a document dated April 11, 2026, was found on the computer of 14-year-old 8th-grade student İsa Aras Mersinli, who carried out an armed attack on his school and killed 9 people, indicating that he had planned a major action in the near future.

In Kahramanmaraş, 14-year-old İsa Aras Mersinli carried out a massacre at the school he attended using a gun belonging to his father, a security officer from Mersin. Mersinli, who went to the school with 5 guns and 7 magazines, resulted in 9 people losing their lives in the attack. An examination of Mersinli's computer revealed a note prepared on April 11th indicating he planned a major action in the near future.

FATHER ARRESTED

"IT IS ASSESSED TO BE AN INDIVIDUAL ATTACK"

The statement made from EGM's social media accounts included the following information:

"The father of the person who carried out the incident, U.M., was taken into custody on April 15th and was arrested by the judicial authorities to which he was referred. Digital materials obtained during searches at the person's residence and in his father's vehicle were seized and taken for examination. The crime scene investigation work has been completed, and all evidence, including camera footage, is being meticulously evaluated. Within the framework of initial findings, there is no determination of any terrorist connection to the incident, and it is assessed to be an individual attack."

NAMES OF THOSE WHO LOST THEIR LIVES BECAME KNOWN

In the incident, mathematics teacher Ayla Kara, students Furkan Bala, Bayram Nabi Şişik, Belinay Poyraz, Zeynep Kılıç, Şuranur Sevgi Kazıcı, Kerem Erdem Gürgör, Adnan Göktürk Yeşil lost their lives. The attacker, İsa Aras Mersinli, also died in the incident.

STATEMENT FROM THE CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE

In a written statement from the Kahramanmaraş Republic Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that the investigation is being conducted by 3 Acting Republic Chief Prosecutors and 10 Republic Prosecutors: "3 Acting Republic Chief Prosecutors and 10 Republic Prosecutors have been assigned to conduct the investigation. It has been understood that as a result of the action carried out by the perpetrator, a total of 9 of our citizens, one teacher and eight students, lost their lives, a total of thirteen students were injured, six of whom remain in critical condition, and the perpetrator was captured dead at the scene. The post-mortem examination and autopsy procedures of our deceased citizens have been completed, and they have been delivered to their families for burial."

MURDERS WERE COMMITTED WITH LICENSED WEAPONS

Furthermore, the statement expressed that the weapons used in the incident were licensed weapons registered in the name of the perpetrator's father, police chief inspector Uğur Mersinli: "5 pistols used by the perpetrator at the scene were seized, and a criminal examination of the mentioned weapons was conducted. Upon determining that the said pistols were licensed pistols registered in the name of the perpetrator's father, police chief inspector Uğur Mersinli, suspect Uğur Mersinli was taken into custody and, following his statement, was referred to the On-Duty Criminal Judgeship of Peace with a request for arrest, and after suspect Uğur Mersinli was arrested by the On-Duty Criminal Judgeship of Peace, he was delivered to the penal execution institution."

DOCUMENT OF THE MASSACRE EMERGED FROM THE COMPUTER

In the written statement made, it was announced that a document related to the incident was found during the examination of Mersinli's computer: "During the house search conducted on the perpetrator who carried out the incident, digital materials such as his personal computer and mobile phone were seized, and examinations conducted on the digital materials revealed a document dated 11/04/2026 on the perpetrator's computer indicating he would carry out a major action in the near future. Based on the existing evidence, no terrorist connection related to the action has been detected, and it has been preliminarily concluded that the action was one carried out individually by the perpetrator. Despite the previously issued publication ban decision regarding the incident, necessary judicial proceedings have also been initiated against accounts making provocative posts. The investigation is continuing comprehensively and in depth in all aspects to be examined on digital platforms trying to direct our children to some negative actions."

PAINFUL DETAIL

After the attack, a painful detail also emerged. Mathematics teacher Ayla, who lost her life, was known for the strong communication she established with her students at the school. The 56-year-old Ayla Kara was in the corridor when the attacker opened fire. The teacher, who was determined to have run into the classroom, shielded her students by covering them, became the target of the bullets. The death of Kara, a teacher much loved by her colleagues and students, caused great sorrow in the education community. A funeral ceremony will be held today for those who lost their lives.
