Turkey's Turkish European Union (EU) Minister and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis visited Kardzhali, a province in Bulgaria where many Bulgarian Turks live. While there Bagis met with the governor of Kardzhali, Ivanka Tausanova. He also took time to see Kardzhali's Mufti Beyhan Mehmet, an area Islamic leader.
Tausanova later hosted Bagis in a closed meeting. No details of the meeting were released until Bagis said a few words afterward saying, "I had a meeting with the governor and the mayor. In the future we will execute many great projects in Kardzhali, which is a friendship bridge between Turkey and Bulgaria".
Mufti Mehmet said happily, "This is a beautiful day! It is an honor to see the Turkish EU minister with us. We are happy".
Later Mehmet and Bagis had their photo taken in front of a banner picture of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
