In Bursa, a scammer who introduced himself as a prosecutor deceived an elderly couple by falsely claiming that a search would be conducted in their home, stealing approximately 2 million liras worth of jewelry. The incident was uncovered after police conducted 580 hours of camera footage analysis.

The incident occurred on April 14, 2026, in the Tahtakale Neighborhood of Osmangazi district in Bursa. According to information obtained, the suspects, who called retired E.T. (80) and his wife N.T. (59) by phone, introduced themselves as police and a prosecutor. The suspects frightened the couple with the lie that "individuals involved in bank and jeweler robberies have your identification information on them, and a search will be conducted in your house."

While the fraudsters directed E.T. out of the house to the courthouse, a person aged 35-40 who came to the door of N.T., who was left alone at home, took jewelry worth approximately 2 million liras from the woman. The suspect was handed, in a bag, 2 Adana twisted bracelets, 1 five-in-one bracelet, 2 Ajda bracelets, 4 rings, 10 grams of gold, and a gold-plated wristwatch.

After a while, the couple realized they had been defrauded and reported the situation to the police.

580 HOURS OF CAMERA FOOTAGE EXAMINED

Teams from the Bursa Provincial Police Department's Public Security Branch Directorate Fraud Bureau Office launched a comprehensive investigation to clarify the incident. A total of 580 hours of footage from 24 security cameras in the area were examined one by one.

The examinations revealed that the suspect tried to lose his trail by walking through Tahtakale Neighborhood, Atatürk (Heykel) Street, and İnönü Street, then blended into the crowd at the Tuzpazarı market, and attempted to avoid attention by changing clothes at a workplace.

The identified suspect, H.B. (40), was caught at the address where he was hiding in the Gemlik district. The jewelry seized from the suspect was fully returned to the victim couple. The detained suspect, after procedures at the police station, was sent to judicial authorities and arrested, then sent to prison.
