The Ukrainian army has released footage showing a wounded soldier being transported by air by a heavy six-rotor drone on the front line where ground evacuation was impossible. The army announced that this was a world first.
According to BBC News, the Ukrainian army has released footage showing the moments when a soldier wounded on the front line was evacuated by air using an unmanned aerial vehicle. The army announced that the operation was the world's first drone evacuation carrying a wounded soldier from the front.
The 92nd Assault Brigade, which made the statement, reported that the wounded soldier was surrounded by landmines and that there was intense Russian drone activity in the area, so a ground rescue operation could not be organized.
According to the brigade, the "heavy" class six-rotor drone (hexacopter) carrying the soldier was controlled by a remote operator. The statement emphasized that the vehicle managed to maintain its balance throughout the operation, which took place under "very difficult" conditions.
In the footage of about 25 seconds, the soldier is seen being carried through the air seated in a harness system attached beneath the drone.
BBC Verify announced that it had verified the identity of the military personnel in the video and found no signs of AI generation or manipulation in the footage.
