Thieves who stole 56 million lira from a bank cash transport vehicle in Izmir on New Year's Eve have disappeared. After nearly a month of surveillance, it was discovered that the person who carried out the crime was a bank employee, and he had committed the robbery with family members and friends. Four suspects, who were found to have buried 25 million lira in the garden of a summer house, were arrested while planning to flee abroad.
The biggest robbery in recent years took place in İzmir. According to reports, on New Year's Eve in the Karşıyaka district, a cash transport vehicle belonging to a bank collected money from branches. That same night, the vehicle containing 56 million lira went missing. Authorities, unable to reach the personnel in the vehicle, reported the situation to the police. İzmir Police Department's Public Order Branch teams launched a large-scale investigation into the incident upon receiving the tip-off. The police, who were working to locate the transport vehicle, which was determined to have no GPS device, began examining security camera footage. The police also consulted the statements of bank officials and identified the suspects.
THEY BURIED 25 MILLION LIRA
The teams found the transport vehicle abandoned in the Kemalpaşa district. Intensifying their efforts in this area, the teams determined that the suspects loaded the money into another vehicle, then went to a villa in the district and left after a while. During a search of the villa where the suspects were hiding, the teams seized 25 million lira buried in the garden.
CAUGHT WHILE PREPARING TO FLEE ABROAD
After days of technical and physical surveillance, the teams carried out an operation against the suspects who were trying to escape with foreign currency. The suspects were caught while attempting to leave the country. The teams, which deepened the investigation related to the incident, detained many suspects along with the driver of the transport vehicle. Among those whose procedures were completed, 4 people, including the driver, were arrested by the court to which they were referred. Meanwhile, it was learned that the arrested transport vehicle driver had a significant amount of debt and was involved in the robbery to pay off his debt.
FAMILY ROBBERY
It was learned that the person who carried out the incident was a bank employee and that the robbery was conducted with family members and friends, and that all the money in the vehicle was delivered to the bank without any issues after the operation.
