In the village of Zey in Adıyaman, the completely dried-up water source beneath the 380-year-old Zey Village Mosque, built by Sultan Murad IV, has started to flow again after many years. The villagers experienced great joy upon seeing the flowing water after so many years. The locals said, "There hasn't been a proper winter for 12 years. Thank God this year, Allah has provided, everything is flourishing. Since 2010, water like this hasn't come here."
The Zey Köy Mosque, which has been serving in Adıyaman for approximately 380 years, was built in honor of Sheikh Abdurrahman Erzincani Hazretleri, whom Ottoman Sultan 4th Murad visited upon his return from the Baghdad Expedition.
In the area where the mosque is located, an arched corridor 10 meters long and 3 meters wide was built to protect the water source, and a mosque was constructed on top of it. This water source, which had been used by the local people for many years, has completely dried up due to the drought experienced in recent years.
THE SOURCE CAME BACK TO LIFE, THE VILLAGERS CELEBRATED
After the heavy snowfall and rain in recent days, the spring has come back to life. The water emerging from beneath the mosque was met with great joy by the villagers. Citizens expressed that the water, which has started to flow again after many years, carries significant value both spiritually and practically.
"GOD WILLING, IT WILL CONTINUE TO FLOW THIS YEAR"
Neşet Yalçın, a local resident, stated that they have not seen such water since 2010 and said:
"There hasn't been a proper winter for 12 years. There has been a water shortage across Turkey. Not just here, but in Central Anatolia, Eastern Anatolia, springs have decreased everywhere. Thank God this year, everything has flourished. We hope we won't have a problem this year. Since 2010, such water has not come here. Previously, there would be water until June or July, then it would dry up. God willing, it will continue to flow this year."
The villagers expressed that the return of the flowing water would bring abundance to the region and that it could be used again as it was in the past, while officials stated that necessary measures would be taken to protect the springs.
