A French tourist who saw a person attempting to jump from the railings of a canyon at a height of 30 meters in Antalya waited at the scene for about 3 hours to see the man being taken to a safe area. While the man was persuaded through the efforts of the police and negotiators, the French woman experienced anxious moments, saying, "I will not leave here until everything is fine."
The incident occurred yesterday at around 14:00 at the Kadınyarı Canyon on Cumhuriyet Street in the Muratpaşa district. According to the information obtained, 33-year-old Kemal U. climbed behind the iron railings at a height of about 30 meters on the edge of the canyon and began to make dangerous movements. Upon the notification of citizens who saw the situation, numerous police, fire, and medical teams were dispatched to the region.
FRENCH TOURIST WAITED FOR HOURS
While police teams took security measures around the area and tried to persuade Kemal U. with a negotiator, French tourist Nadia, who was passing by, was deeply affected by what was happening. Seeing the man's condition, the tourist woman gave up returning to the hotel and sat on the stairs next to the canyon, following the developments for hours. Waving at Kemal U., who occasionally made dangerous movements, and trying to help him by speaking as well, the French tourist watched the police's persuasion efforts with anxious eyes for 3 hours.
"UNTIL EVERYTHING IS FINE..."
French tourist Nadia, expressing her sadness and helplessness, conveyed her feelings with these words: "I was one of the first people to see him before this incident happened. I thought he wanted to commit suicide and I didn't want to go back to the hotel. I just want to know what will happen to this man because this situation upsets me very much. I tried to talk to him and offer help, but he doesn't want to listen to anyone. I will not leave here until everything is fine. I hope everything goes well for him and he is taken to a psychiatric center."
SHE RAN TO HIM WHEN HE WAS PERSUADED AND CAME DOWN
After the tense wait lasting about 3 hours, Kemal U. was persuaded by the efforts of the negotiator and police teams and brought down from where he was to a safe area. Seeing the man being brought down, French tourist Nadia immediately went to Kemal U. and asked about his health condition. Kemal U. was taken to the hospital by ambulance by medical teams for precautionary and control purposes.
