According to local authorities, the fire spread rapidly due to the thatched roof sections made of palm leaves and strong winds. Images shared on social media showed thick black smoke rising over the Caribbean coast and flames engulfing the hotel complex.

ITALIAN TOURIST DIES

The Dominican Republic Emergency Health Services (DAEH) announced that 46-year-old Italian tourist Francesca Valentino died in the fire. Three people were hospitalized, while six others were treated at the scene. It was reported that the injured included hotel guests, visitors, and some emergency responders.

GUESTS RELOCATED TO OTHER HOTELS

After the fire was brought under control, evacuated guests were directed to other hotels in the area. It was announced that the Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace hotel, part of the same chain, was unaffected and continued normal operations.
