24-hour ban on actions in Beyoğlu

The Beyoğlu District Governorate announced a 24-hour ban on all events in open areas within the district, including meetings, demonstrations, press releases, leaflet distribution, and sit-in protests. Additionally, from 10:00 AM until further notice, the M2 Yenikapı-Hacıosman Metro Line's Taksim Station and the F1 Taksim-Kabataş Funicular Line will be closed to operation. In Şişli, some streets will also be closed to traffic if deemed necessary.

The Beyoğlu District Governorship of Istanbul announced that it has decided to ban gatherings and demonstrations planned in the district on June 21. In a statement from the district governorship, it was stated that calls for gatherings within the borders of Beyoğlu were detected on some social media accounts, and it was assessed that these gatherings could lead to actions that may disrupt public order and social peace.

TAKSIM SQUARE WILL BE CLOSED

The statement reported that as of 00:01 on June 21, all gatherings, protest marches, press releases, leafleting, sit-ins, and similar events in all open areas in the district are banned for 24 hours.

The district governorship announced that within the scope of the measures taken, as of 10:00, Taksim Square and the Republic Monument in Taksim Square will be closed with barriers, and vehicle and pedestrian traffic may be stopped in a controlled manner if deemed necessary.

According to the statement, barriers will be placed around Gezi Park, and pedestrian traffic will be restricted if needed. İstiklal Avenue and its side streets will be closed with barriers up to Tünel Square, and vehicle and pedestrian crossings will not be allowed if deemed necessary.

SECURITY MEASURES WILL ALSO BE IMPLEMENTED IN AND AROUND KARAKÖY SQUARE

Similar security measures will also be implemented in and around Karaköy Square. Additionally, it was stated that barriers will be placed on Mete Street, Gümüşsuyu Street, Sıraselviler Street, Billurcu Street, Meşelik Street, Divan Junction, Kazancı Slope, Balo Street, Yeni Çarşı Street, Şişhane Square and its surroundings, as well as Firuzağa Square and its connecting streets.

The district governorship reported that, considering possible social incidents that may occur during the day, vehicle and pedestrian traffic may be temporarily closed at different points in Beyoğlu if needed.

TAKSIM METRO STATION IS ALSO CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

In a statement from Metro Istanbul's social media account, it was reported that temporary arrangements have been made on some metro and funicular lines in line with the decision of the Istanbul Governorship.

The statement said, "As of 10:00 on Sunday, June 21, until further notice: The Taksim station of our M2 Yenikapı-Hacıosman Metro Line and our F1 Taksim-Kabataş Funicular Line will be closed to operation. All entrances and exits of our M2 line's Şişhane station, except the Kasımpaşa exit, will be closed to passenger use."

Metro Istanbul announced that trains will continue their services without stopping at Taksim Station. Lapdere Taksim avenues, Barbaros, Piyalepaşa, Tarlabaşı boulevards, and Melek Street can be used as alternative routes.

IN ŞIŞLI, SOME ROADS MAY BE CLOSED IF NECESSARY

Meanwhile, according to a statement from the Istanbul Police Department, in Şişli, Taşkışla and Askerocağı streets will be closed to traffic if necessary.

In the district, Abdi İpekçi, Mim Kemal Öke, Kadırgalar, Dolmabahçe Gazhane, Maçka, Teşvikiye, Vali Konağı, and Cumhuriyet avenues can be used as alternative routes.
