The Social Security Institution has canceled the insurance and retirement of more than 245,000 people so far while increasing digital and field inspections in the fight against fake insurance and unregistered employment.
The Social Security Institution (SGK) has raised its inspection mechanisms to the highest level in the fight against unregistered employment and fake insurance. The institution identifies individuals who are shown as insured despite not actually working, by analyzing millions of data with artificial intelligence-supported systems and advanced algorithms. This system aims to prevent the insurance and retirement rights that are sought to be obtained through fraudulent means.
İsa Karakaş, a writer for Türkiye Gazetesi, also shared the latest data on the subject in his column. Karakaş emphasized that the practices known as "favor insurance" have serious consequences.
THOSE ENGAGING IN "FAVOR INSURANCE" FACE SEVERE CONSEQUENCES
Karakaş drew attention to a common picture in the complaints received from citizens. Accordingly, many people conducted transactions without knowing the name, address, or field of activity of the workplace where they were shown as insured. According to SGK regulations, insurance is based on actual work and employer dependency conditions. If even one of these conditions is missing, the insurance is considered invalid.
100 PARAMETER DIGITAL MONITORING SYSTEM
Since 2016, SGK has conducted extensive analyses within the scope of the "Fake Workplace and Fake Insurance Detection Project." A total of 4.6 million workplaces registered between 2011 and 2016 were examined. The system identified risky workplaces by evaluating approximately 100 different parameters such as premium payment habits, number of employees, and industry compatibility. Thanks to digital monitoring, detection times have significantly decreased.
245,740 PEOPLE'S INSURANCE AND RETIREMENT CANCELLED
Notable results were obtained in the 16 phases of the project, which will continue until 2025. In the last two phases, hundreds of fake workplaces were identified. In the 15th phase, 18,191 fake insured individuals were identified in 128 workplaces, revealing a debt of 487.5 million lira. In the 16th phase, 20,578 fake insured individuals were identified in 195 workplaces, and a public loss of 1.27 billion lira was calculated. In total, the insurance and retirement of 245,740 individuals reported through 3,273 fake workplaces were cancelled.
SALARIES ARE RECOVERED WITH INTEREST
In cases where fake insurance is detected, SGK does not only cancel the insurance. It cuts the salaries of retired individuals and demands the payments made so far back with interest. Additionally, it collects the healthcare expenses of these individuals. Legal action is initiated against both the individuals who appear as insured and those who established this system.
