Municipal police teams affiliated with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) intervened against 60-year-old Mustafa A., who was renting bicycles on the Ambarlı coast of Avcılar. The argument that started after the police confiscated 3 bicycles ended with the street vendor lying on the ground, covered in blood, after being hit by a motorcycle. New security camera and helmet camera footage of the horrifying moments when the elderly man was injured and hospitalized for treatment has emerged.
THE ARGUMENT ESCALATED, HE STEPPED IN FRONT OF THE MOTORCYCLE
According to the claims, police teams approached Mustafa A., who was conducting street activities along the coastline, gathered the bicycles, and confiscated them. The street vendor, wanting to prevent the removal of his bicycles, which were his livelihood, and to speak with the officials, stepped in front of the police motorcycle preparing to move and tried to stop it. At that moment, as the motorcycle took off, the driver hit Mustafa A., causing the elderly man to lose his balance and fall hard onto the asphalt.
HE HIT HIS HEAD ON THE ASPHALT, CITIZENS REACTED
Mustafa A., who hit his head on the asphalt surface due to the force of the fall, was instantly covered in blood. Citizens nearby who witnessed the incident reacted strongly to the situation, while the injured man was taken to the hospital by ambulance that arrived at the scene after the report. In the initial images captured on mobile phone cameras, the citizen was seen lying injured on the ground, while the police officers were seen leaving the scene. This situation further increased the anger of those around.
NEW FOOTAGE CAPTURED THE MOMENTS
After the incident, teams launched an investigation and obtained new camera recordings. In the newly revealed footage, the moments when the street vendor runs towards the motorcycle, which was taking off and moving away from the area after the police intervention, and the driver hits the citizen coming towards him, were clearly captured. It was learned that the victim's family would file a complaint against the police teams following the incident.
"HE STEPPED ON THE GAS AND HIT MY CHEST"
Street vendor Mustafa A., recounting the horrifying moments he experienced in the hospital, stated that he denied the accusations and wanted to defend his righteousness. Mustafa A. expressed the following in his statement:
"The motorized police teams came and took my bicycles. I said, 'Why do you need to do this? I just set up 3 bicycles here for the holiday.' At that moment, they suddenly stepped on the gas and hit my chest, and I fell to the ground. While I was there, they left and went away. These are all in the recordings. The camera was rolling, everything is on the helmet camera. There was no shouting, no swearing, no assault, nothing. Their own camera footage will show this."
