A heavy odor emanating from an apartment in Gümüşhane alarmed the neighbors and authorities late at night. Suspecting the smell coming from a ground-floor unit could be a "corpse odor," police, fire, and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. Entering the home with permission from the prosecutor's office, the teams found the source of the unbearable smell that had enveloped the building: rotten meat forgotten in a refrigerator that had stopped working due to a tripped circuit breaker, decomposing over time.

A heavy odor spreading from an apartment in Gümüşhane, terrifying nearby residents, alarmed security and fire brigade teams in the middle of the night. Teams, suspecting a "corpse" due to the smell from the ground floor, opened the door with permission from the prosecutor's office and entered, only to uncover a completely different neglect behind the incident. Once the source of the odor that plagued the neighborhood was identified, the apartment residents breathed a deep sigh of relief.

CORPSE SUSPICION MOBILIZED TEAMS

The incident occurred at night in an apartment building on Kıbrıs Street in the Hasanbey Neighborhood. Disturbed by the unbearable and heavy odor enveloping the building, residents, fearing a grim scenario, immediately reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center. Following the report, police, fire brigade, and medical teams were dispatched to the address. Receiving information from nearby residents that an elderly woman and a young girl lived in the apartment, teams focused on the possibility of a death (corpse odor) having occurred inside.

DOORS OPENED WITH PROSECUTOR'S PERMISSION

After attempting to reach the apartment owners by phone and knocking on the door for a long time, security forces, failing to get results, obtained the spare key to the apartment. Then, following legal permission from the duty prosecutor, police and fire brigade teams put on their masks and entered. Medical teams were also kept on standby at the door for any potential tragic scene inside the home.

CAUSE OF THE ALARM: MEAT SPOILED AFTER FUSE TRIPPED

Police teams, checking each room inside the home one by one, found no issue or lifeless body. Focusing their inspection on the kitchen, teams noticed that the apartment's electrical fuse had tripped, causing the refrigerator to be inoperative for a long time. It was revealed that the heavy odor, which alarmed the entire apartment and street, came from meat forgotten in the freezer compartment of the refrigerator that had completely spoiled and rotten due to the power outage. With the truth uncovered, teams returned to normal after filing a report, and the neighborhood residents breathed a sigh of relief.
