A new era is beginning at passport control in Greece. Athens has announced that in the new biometric system, digital records of non-EU citizens will be collected and stored for a period of three years. With the new system, the practice of manually stamping passports will come to an end. Biometric data such as fingerprints and facial scans will be collected.

Greece, Turkey's neighbor, is preparing to implement a new application for entry into the country. Greece has decided to implement a biometric border system for non-EU citizens in order to tighten control at the external borders of the European Union (EU).

A NEW ERA BEGINS FOR ENTRY INTO GREECE

The new system is expected to be valid starting from October 2025, and the manual stamping of passports for citizens of other countries, including those holding UK passports who lost their EU citizenship privileges after Brexit, will be shelved. With this application, biometric data such as fingerprints and facial scans will now be collected.

DIGITAL RECORDS OF NON-EU CITIZENS WILL BE TAKEN

The digital records of non-EU citizens will be kept on file for a period of 3 years. This will make it easier for registered travelers to re-enter.
