A video from Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's second visit to Antalya on February 10, 1931, has emerged. The footage of Atatürk greeting the Mehmetçik (Turkish soldier) is part of the archives of the Turkish Armed Forces.

New images have emerged regarding the second visit of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, to Antalya, which he visited three times. In the video published in newspapers from 1931, Commander-in-Chief Atatürk inspects and greets the Mehmetçik in Antalya. The footage was included as an 8-second segment in a video prepared by the Turkish Armed Forces to commemorate the anniversary of Atatürk's passing. The new footage from Atatürk's second visit to Antalya is dated February 10, 1931, and it is estimated that there may be a longer version in the TSK archives.

8 SECONDS IN TSK'S SPECIAL VIDEO

A student named Ali Taner Tümer (22), who archives photographs and videos of Atatürk, determined through comparisons of news in newspapers from 1931 that the footage was shot in Antalya. Tümer stated that he identified the footage as an 8-second segment within the 1 minute and 16 seconds long video specially prepared by the TSK for Atatürk on November 10, and mentioned that he has been working on Atatürk's photographs and videos for many years, meticulously archiving every image and photo he could find with exact dates.

THERE IS A PHOTOGRAPH IN THE NEWSPAPER

Stating that it is a very rare image, Tümer said, "After clarifying the exact date, I wanted to share it on the exact day. This footage is really very special. I noticed that it was briefly used on our Ata's 85th death anniversary on the TSK's YouTube channel. In fact, I can say it is more of a footage that has been interspersed. I identified that this photo was taken in Antalya that day thanks to the newspaper clipping, based on Atatürk's attire, the appearance of the soldiers, and the photo itself. The photographic version is published in the Cumhuriyet Newspaper dated February 19, 1931."

DETAILS OF THE SECOND VISIT

Atatürk made his first visit to Antalya on March 6, 1930. His second visit to Antalya took place as part of a domestic tour that began on January 26, 1931. The trip was made to examine the results of the 1929 global crisis and the closure of the Free Republican Party on-site with an expert delegation and to identify what needed to be done. For this purpose, he set off from İzmir to Antalya on February 8, 1931, aboard the Ege Vapuru. The Ege Vapuru arrived in Antalya on the morning of February 10, 1931. In the afternoon, Atatürk arrived at the pier by sea motor and went to the regiment headquarters to inspect the military units. He then moved from the regiment to the governor's office to get information about local affairs from the governor. Later, he visited the Municipality and the Republican People's Party, discussing local issues at length. After receiving information about local affairs from the governor, Atatürk emphasized the importance of establishing a substantial agricultural credit and sales cooperative and the need for its organization during this conversation. That same evening, he returned to the steamboat and departed for Silifke aboard the Ege Vapuru. Ata's third visit to Antalya was on February 18, 1935.
