With the action plan prepared by the Turkish Grand National Assembly, a comprehensive transformation is targeted in schools against peer bullying; while the "Alo Bullying Hotline" and an artificial intelligence-supported digital emergency button enable students to request immediate help, compulsory courses to be added to the curriculum and rehabilitation programs aim to both prevent bullying and strengthen the safe school environment.
The new report prepared by the Turkish Grand National Assembly has brought comprehensive and strict measures against increasing peer bullying in schools to the agenda. With wide-ranging regulations extending from education to technology, it aims to enhance student safety.
COMPREHENSIVE ACTION PLAN FROM THE TURKISH GRAND NATIONAL ASSEMBLY
The report prepared by the Subcommittee on Combating Peer Bullying, established in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, envisions radical changes against bullying incidents occurring in schools and digital platforms. The plan highlights both preventive and interventionist steps.
“ALO BULLYING HOTLINE” WILL BE ESTABLISHED
The report plans to establish an "Alo Bullying Hotline" so that students can report the bullying they experience quickly and safely. Through this hotline, students will be able to report anonymously. Additionally, a "digital emergency button" integrated into tablets and phones will allow students to share their location information with their families and authorities with a single touch. The system aims to detect risky situations in advance with artificial intelligence-supported analyses.
MANDATORY COURSE ADDED TO THE CURRICULUM
An important step is also being taken in education. A new course named "Empathy and Social Skills" is planned to be added to the curriculum as mandatory. This course aims to improve students' communication, conflict resolution, and social adaptation skills. The establishment of student councils and peer mediation systems in schools is also on the agenda.
SECURITY WILL BE INCREASED IN SCHOOLS
The report also includes increasing inspections regarding school security. It plans to expand camera systems and increase the number of staff in corridors, break areas, and school surroundings. The establishment of "child-friendly counseling" units at the neighborhood level is also among the recommendations.
REHABILITATION APPROACH TO BULLYING
The regulation not only aims to protect victims but also covers the rehabilitation of students who engage in bullying. Within this scope, it is planned to implement anger management, empathy development, and social skill programs, while aiming to detect risky behaviors at an early stage through regular analyses.
