The President of the Turkish Red Meat Producers Central Union, Bülent Tunç, stated that the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's "Abundance in the Countryside, Support for Livestock Project" will provide the sector with affordable costs by supplying pregnant cattle from the enterprises of the General Directorate of Agricultural Enterprises (TİGEM) to producers at reasonable prices.

The President of the Turkish Red Meat Producers Central Union, Bülent Tunç, stated that the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's "Abundance in the Countryside, Support for Livestock Project" will positively impact the sector by providing pregnant cattle from the General Directorate of Agricultural Enterprises (TİGEM) to producers at affordable costs, saying, "This will increase red meat production. Moreover, this increase will not be temporary but a continuous one."

PREGNANT CATTLE WILL BE PRODUCED AT AFFORDABLE COSTS

According to information compiled by AA reporter, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced after yesterday's cabinet meeting that pregnant cattle in TİGEM enterprises will be provided to producers at affordable costs within the scope of the "Abundance in the Countryside, Support for Livestock Project." The one-year care fees for these animals will also be covered under the project, and financial facilities will be provided to producers.

Bülent Tunç, the President of the Turkish Red Meat Producers Central Union, evaluated the project to be implemented. Emphasizing the importance of strengthening family businesses engaged in livestock farming and increasing the participation of young people and women in the agricultural sector, Tunç stated that supporting animal production in the country will contribute to the advancement of the sector.

"THE RED MEAT ISSUE WILL BE SOLVED IN THE LONG TERM"

Tunç said, "The future of the livestock sector in Turkey depends on small enterprises. This is a topic we have been trying to explain for years. The provision of pregnant cattle from TİGEM enterprises to producers at affordable costs through the Ministry's Abundance in the Countryside, Support for Livestock Project will positively impact the sector. This will increase red meat production. Furthermore, this increase will not be temporary but a continuous one. The project has provided a long-term solution to the problems regarding red meat supply in the country." he evaluated.

Tunç pointed out that with the increase of beef breeds in family businesses, imports will also be prevented, stating, "We constantly emphasize that to increase the supply of red meat, our livestock population must increase. This can only be achieved through family businesses." he said.

THERE WILL BE GREAT FACILITIES FOR THOSE WHO WILL PURCHASE ANIMALS

Tunç highlighted the importance of having new entrants in the sector, explaining that the support provided is encouraging. He reminded that the feeding costs of the animals will also be covered for one year, saying, "This is very valuable, especially for young people who want to enter the sector. This way, they will learn the job for a year. On the other hand, the project also provides financial opportunities for the sale of animals. This will be a great convenience for those who will purchase animals." he stated.

THE PROJECT WILL ALSO ENSURE THE DEVELOPMENT OF LIVESTOCK IN THE EARTHQUAKE REGION

Tunç argued that very large animal enterprises are not a suitable model for Turkey, stating: "There are about 50,000 enterprises with livestock in the country. Enterprises with a large number of animals do not contribute to animal production. They buy animals, raise them, and send them for slaughter. Additionally, these enterprises sometimes try to influence prices."

Tunç also stated that they support the project as a union, saying, "We are a union that is active in the field. If there is a task for us in this project, we are ready to do it willingly. We can provide support with both our experience and knowledge." He also reminded that priority will be given to provinces in the earthquake region in the project, adding that this will accelerate the development of livestock in the provinces in that region.
