RUSSIA'S ONE-DAY CEASEFIRE DECISION
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a temporary ceasefire in the ongoing war with Ukraine due to the Easter holiday. According to the decision, hostilities will cease as of 06:00 on April 11. This humanitarian step aims to reduce tensions in the region during the holiday.
It was announced that the declared ceasefire will last until the end of April 12. With this implementation, it is expected that both sides will pause military operations during the religious holiday. How the ceasefire will be received on the ground is being closely monitored by the military units of both countries.
STATEMENT FROM THE KREMLIN
In a statement from the Kremlin, the following was stated: "By the decision of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, a ceasefire has been declared from 16:00 on April 11 until the end of April 12, 2026, on the occasion of the upcoming Orthodox Easter holiday (the Holy Resurrection of Christ)."
It was also added that Defense Minister Andrey Belousov and Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov were instructed to halt combat operations on all fronts during this period.
The statement continued, "The forces will be prepared to suppress any possible provocations and aggressive actions that may come from the enemy. We are operating under the understanding that the Ukrainian side will also follow this example of the Russian Federation," it was stated.
ZELENSKY HAD CALLED FOR A CEASEFIRE
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated last week that Ukraine was ready to declare a temporary ceasefire for the Easter holiday. Zelensky said, "We are ready for a full or vigorous ceasefire during the Easter holiday."
