According to data published by the UK-based research company Rho Motion, 1.7 million electric vehicles were sold worldwide in September. This figure exceeded the sales volume of 150,000 seen in December 2023, which previously held the record for sales, thus setting a new record for global electric vehicle sales in September. Of these sales, 1.1 million occurred in China, while over 300,000 electric vehicles were sold in the European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom last month. 11.5 MILLION VEHICLES SOLD IN THE FIRST 9 MONTHS OF THE YEARDuring the January-September period, total electric vehicle sales worldwide reached 11.5 million, marking a 22% increase. Of the total sales during this period, 7.2 million occurred in China, 2.2 million in the EU and the United Kingdom, and 1.3 million in the US and Canada. The remaining sales took place in other regions of the world. SALES INCREASED IN CHINA, DECREASED IN EUROPECharles Lester, Data Manager at Rho Motion, stated in his assessment of the data that the record-breaking electric vehicle sales in September brought new hope to the sector. Noting that electrification in the transportation sector is inevitable, Lester said, "Recent sales slowdowns in many parts of the world had sown seeds of doubt, but these are now starting to fade. However, the regional differences are surprising. China alone accounts for more than half of the global total, while Europe's figures are shrinking, and the US and Canada are growing steadily."
