Details regarding the attempted attack on the building where the Israeli National Security Council meeting was held were published by the semi-official Fars News Agency. According to the report, the attack occurred in the early hours of June 16 in the lower floors of a building in western Tehran. At that time, a National Security Council meeting was being held with the participation of leaders and high-ranking officials representing three state authorities.
It was stated that the attack was planned similarly to the attack on Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah, who lost his life in an Israeli attack in Beirut in September 2024, and that Israel aimed to block escape routes and cut off airflow by targeting the building's entrances and exits with six bombs or missiles.
THEY WERE LIGHTLY INJURED IN THEIR LEGS
It was reported that as a result of the explosions, the electricity was cut off in the meeting hall, but officials managed to leave the building using a pre-planned emergency exit. During the exit, it was stated that some high-ranking officials, including President Pezeshkian, were lightly injured in their legs.
SECURITY UNITS LAUNCHED AN INVESTIGATION
It was reported that the detailed and accurate information the attackers had about the target strengthened the possibility of an insider information leak, and in this regard, security units launched an investigation. Iranian President Pezeshkian stated in an interview on American journalist Tucker Carlson's program on July 7 that Israel wanted to bomb the building where the meeting was held. Iran's former Revolutionary Guards Commander Mohsen Rezaei also stated in an interview with state television on July 9 that six bombs hit the location where the National Security Council was gathered during the Israeli attacks, and there were no casualties or injuries in the attack.
WHAT HAPPENED?
While the nuclear negotiation process between Iran and the US was ongoing, Israel launched attacks targeting nuclear and military facilities as well as civilian settlements in various cities of Iran on June 13. According to Israel's statement, 28 people were killed and 1272 people were injured in the Iranian army's counterattacks.
The US, which openly supported Israel, launched an attack on Iran's three nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordo, and Isfahan on June 22. In response to the US attack, Iran carried out a missile attack on the US Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar on June 23. US President Donald Trump announced on June 24 that a ceasefire had been established between Iran and Israel. Trump later stated that they wanted to start nuclear talks with Iran and sought an agreement that would completely halt Tehran's uranium enrichment activities.
