Rainy weather coming from the Balkans entered Thrace in the morning hours. The General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) warned against floods and flash floods due to the expected heavy downpour in the surroundings of Edirne, Kırklareli, and Tekirdağ, as well as in the western parts of Çanakkale. The downpour is expected to reach Istanbul in the evening hours. AKOM reported that temperatures in the city will drop starting from the weekend, along with northerly winds.
The downpour that has begun to affect Thrace will spread to the northern and western parts of Marmara in the later hours of the day. Experts warned that caution should be exercised against precipitation, especially in Istanbul on Friday evening.
FLOOD AND FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR 3 PROVINCES IN THRACE
The General Directorate of Meteorology (MGM) announced that locally strong thunderstorms with downpours are expected today around Edirne, Kırklareli and Tekirdağ. It was stated that locally strong precipitation may also be seen in the western parts of Çanakkale.
While 21 to 50 kilograms of precipitation per square meter is expected in these provinces, the warning called for caution against adverse conditions such as floods, flash floods, lightning and disruptions in transportation. It was emphasized that citizens should be particularly cautious around stream beds, low-lying areas and main roads.
THE DOWNPOUR WILL REACH ISTANBUL IN THE EVENING
According to the latest forecasts of the MGM, precipitation will first be effective in Thrace, then move to the north and west of Marmara. The thunderstorm downpour is expected to increase its effect across Marmara in the afternoon and reach Istanbul in the evening hours. Showery passages are also forecast in the Western Black Sea and Northern Aegean.
PAY ATTENTION ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) announced in its weekly report that there will be precipitation passages in the city on Friday and Saturday. According to AKOM data, the weather in Istanbul today will be partly cloudy with intermittent rain. The temperature is expected to range between 14 and 21 degrees, with 3 to 10 kilograms of precipitation per square meter.
On Saturday, very cloudy and drizzly weather is forecast. On the day when the temperature will be between 14 and 19 degrees, 1 to 4 kilograms of precipitation per square meter is estimated.
TEMPERATURES WILL DROP STARTING FROM THE WEEKEND
According to AKOM's forecast, no precipitation is expected in Istanbul starting from Sunday. With the strengthening of northerly winds, the highest temperature is expected to drop to 19 degrees on Monday, 18 on Tuesday and 17 on Wednesday.
“LET’S BE CAREFUL ON FRIDAY EVENING”
Meteorology expert Prof. Dr. Orhan Şen stated that the precipitation entering from Thrace will be effective in Istanbul on Friday evening and will last only one night. Şen said, “It is not light precipitation, but it is not extreme precipitation either. So let’s be careful on Friday evening.”
Noting that there is a risk of strong precipitation and flooding next week along the Antalya, Fethiye, Finike, Marmaris and Bodrum line, Şen stated that a new wave of precipitation is expected in the western regions, including Istanbul and Marmara, in the first days of November. Şen noted that the pastırma summer temperatures may be seen in the second week of November.
