In an accident at an airport in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania, the pilot of a small plane died after the aircraft collided with a police helicopter, and two police officers on the helicopter were injured.

In a crash at an airport in the US state of Pennsylvania, a police helicopter collided with a small plane, killing the plane's pilot and injuring 2 police officers in the helicopter.

Pennsylvania police official George Bivens said at a press conference that the small plane, a Cessna 150, was landing on the runway when it changed direction and struck a Bell 407 police helicopter that was hovering close to the ground.

INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED INTO THE CRASH

Bivens stated that the pilot of the plane, which broke into many pieces after the violent collision, lost his life, and 2 police officers on the helicopter were also injured.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) described the incident as a "mid-air collision," while state police have not yet clarified whether the plane was in the air at the time of the collision.

An investigation has been launched into the crash.
