A terrible accident occurred this evening in the world-famous Göynük Canyon in Antalya's Kemer district. According to initial reports, approximately 24 people were injured, 4 of them seriously, when a massive rock mass broke off and fell onto visitors in the rafting area of the canyon. Following the incident, the canyon was completely evacuated for precautionary measures.

A massive rockfall occurred in Göynük Canyon, located in the Göynük neighborhood of Antalya's Kemer district, which hosts thousands of local and foreign tourists every year, during the evening hours today, causing a major disaster.

BIG BOULDER DETACHED FROM SLOPE FALLS ON VISITORS

According to information reported by Kemer News, a giant boulder detached from the slope for an undetermined reason in the rafting area within the canyon, which features caves and water crossings, and fell on visitors below.

4 SERIOUSLY INJURED, APPROXIMATELY 24 PEOPLE HURT

Based on initial assessments, a total of 4 people were seriously injured, including 2 Turkish and 2 foreign nationals, directly hit by the falling boulder. It was learned that approximately 20 visitors in the canyon at the time sustained various injuries due to flying rocks and panic.

Multiple ambulances, AFAD, gendarmerie, UMKE, and search and rescue teams were dispatched to the scene upon notification. Rescue teams, reaching the area under difficult conditions due to the canyon's rugged terrain, provided first aid to the injured on-site. The seriously injured were transported on stretchers to ambulances and sent to various hospitals in Kemer and Antalya.

CANYON FULLY EVACUATED

Gendarmerie teams took extensive security measures at the scene, and Göynük Canyon was completely evacuated and closed to visitors as a precaution against the risk of further landslides or rockfalls.

The exact cause of the accident will be clarified following investigations by geologists and technical teams. A large-scale investigation has been launched by gendarmerie teams regarding the incident.
