On the 10th anniversary of the treacherous coup attempt, Turkey commemorates its martyrs while the call to prayer, a symbol of the national will, echoed from all mosques across the country at exactly 00:13. Following the decision of the Directorate of Religious Affairs, mosque minarets remained illuminated until dawn, and places of worship near squares will be kept open overnight for citizens' prayers and visits.
Türkiye poured into the squares to commemorate its martyrs and once again emphasize the epic of national will on the 10th anniversary of the treacherous July 15 coup attempt. Following the day-long commemoration events, a meaningful unity was experienced across the country at midnight.
SELAS RECITED SIMULTANEOUSLY IN ALL MOSQUES OF 81 PROVINCES
In line with the planning by the Presidency of Religious Affairs, the selas that kept the nation's spirit of resistance alive during the coup attempt echoed at the same time on the 10th anniversary. At exactly 00:13 on the night connecting July 15 to July 16, selas were recited simultaneously in all mosques across Türkiye.
MOSQUE LIGHTS WILL NOT GO OUT
Following the recited selas, the minaret lights (şerefeler) of mosques will remain on until the morning prayer in memory of the historic night. In accordance with the decision, main mosques in provincial and district centers, as well as mosques near squares where commemoration events are held, will be kept open throughout the night for citizens' worship and visits.
