Excavation work has begun on trenches around Israel's Ketziot Prison in the Negev Desert, where crocodiles are planned to be placed. The project, prepared for the high-security section housing Palestinian detainees, has caused widespread global reaction.
According to reports in the Israeli press, excavation work has begun on ditches approximately 170 meters long around the high-security section of Ketziot Prison.
The video also shows construction equipment digging around the prison and increased security measures. The Israeli National Security Ministry has also confirmed that preparations have begun.
BEN-GVIR IS BEHIND THE PROJECT
The project was brought up by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. Ben-Gvir advocates placing Nile crocodiles in the ditches to increase deterrence in the sections housing Palestinian security prisoners.
In this context, the Israeli Ministry of Environmental Protection amended the legal status of Nile crocodiles, paving the way for security agencies to keep these animals under certain conditions.
CROCODILES NOT YET BROUGHT IN
Local officials confirmed that excavation work is ongoing, but noted that it is not yet clear whether crocodiles will actually be placed in the ditches. The project continues to be a subject of controversy due to objections from environmental organizations and legal experts.
