In an event held at a wedding hall in the Menemen district of Izmir, a doctor lost his life when a decorative stone arch at the entrance collapsed on them, while his wife was seriously injured.
During a breakfast event organized in the wedding hall of a kindergarten in the Menemen district of İzmir, a decorative arch collapsed on Doctor Mehmet Fatih, who was learned to be working at Menemen State Hospital, and his wife Güler Baltacı.
DOCTOR DIED, WIFE SERIOUSLY INJURED
Upon notification, health, fire brigade, gendarmerie, and AFAD teams were dispatched to the area. The fire brigade and AFAD teams rescued the injured from the rubble and handed them over to health personnel. The Baltacı couple was taken to Menemen State Hospital after the first intervention. After their treatment there, Mehmet Fatih Baltacı was transferred to İzmir City Hospital, where he could not be saved despite all the doctors' interventions. It was reported that Güler Baltacı's life-threatening condition continued.
OPERATOR TAKEN INTO CUSTODY
It was learned that the operator of the wedding hall, N.C., was taken into custody as part of the investigation launched regarding the incident. The investigation related to the incident is ongoing.
STATEMENT FROM THE MEDICAL CHAMBER
In a statement made on the social media account of the İzmir Medical Chamber regarding the issue, it was stated: "Negligence, carelessness, and a lack of responsibility have taken a young physician friend, Dr. Mehmet Fatih Baltacı, away from life. A physician who has entered the emergency room multiple times to heal patients entered the emergency room today with his injured body. Unfortunately, he could not be revived despite the intense efforts of our colleagues working at Menemen State Hospital," it was said.
