The indictment of the baby killer 'Newborn gang', which deeply shook Turkey, has been sent to the court. A total of 47 suspects, who are alleged to have caused the deaths of baby emergency patients by transferring them to the newborn units of private hospitals they had previously agreed upon and gained unjust profits, are facing prison sentences ranging from 177 years and 6 months to 582 years and 9 months, while the closure of the private hospitals and the confiscation of their assets have also been requested.

INDICTMENT COMPLETED

The indictment prepared as a result of the investigation conducted by the Organized Crimes and Terror Crimes Investigation Office of the Büyükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has been completed and sent to the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. It has been requested that the gang members, who also threatened the public prosecutor conducting the investigation, be sentenced to a total of 177 years and 6 months to 582 years and 9 months in prison. In the indictment, 10 deceased babies are referred to as 'Victims', 5 individuals as 'Complainants', the Social Security Institution (SGK) Istanbul Provincial Directorate as 'Injured party', 19 hospitals and health companies as 'Legally responsible', and 47 individuals as 'Suspects'. The indictment also states that the gang is led by Fırat Sarı, with Doctor İlker Gönen and 112 Emergency Call Center ambulance driver Gıyasettin Mert Özdemir being referred to as 'Organizational leaders', while the gang circumvented the 112 system to fill the neonatal intensive care units of the private hospitals they operated and manipulated the patients' disease levels to receive maximum payments from SGK.

UP TO 589 YEARS AND 9 MONTHS IN PRISON REQUESTED

In the indictment, it has been requested that gang leader Fırat Sarı and İlker Gönen be sentenced to a total of 177 years and 6 months to 582 years and 9 months in prison for 10 counts of 'Manslaughter by negligence', 'Qualified fraud', 'Establishing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime', and 11 counts of 'Forgery in official documents'. For Gıyasettin Mert Özdemir, who is on duty at 112, it has been requested that he be sentenced to 180 years to 589 years and 9 months in prison for 'Manslaughter by negligence', 'Illegal acquisition of personal data', 'Fraud to the detriment of public institutions and organizations', 'Establishing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime', and 'Forgery in official documents'.

"HOSPITALS SHOULD BE CONFISCATED"

Additionally, in the indictment, similar prison sentences are foreseen for other suspects, and since 'Fraud' was committed to the benefit of the hospitals and the companies affiliated with them, it has been requested that a security measure specific to legal entities be applied, and that the hospitals and companies be closed and their assets confiscated. The indictment is currently being evaluated by the Bakırköy 22nd High Criminal Court.
