Between January 31 and February 4, 2025, 70% of the participants in a survey conducted in 26 provinces of Turkey stated that the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, should resign following the hotel fire in Kartalkaya.
After the hotel disaster in Bolu Kartalkaya, which claimed the lives of 78 people, the discussions about "Who is responsible?" kept the agenda busy for a long time. While the repercussions of the incident continue, a survey conducted by Istanbul Economic Research with approximately 2,000 people in 26 provinces asked participants, "Do you think Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy should resign after the fire?"
70% WANT HIM TO RESIGN
70% of the participants stated that Minister Ersoy should resign, while 21% said there was no need for him to resign. 9% responded with "I don't know."
Here are the results from the survey;
HE HAD PASSED THE BUCK TO THE MUNICIPALITY
After the fire disaster in Kartalkaya, Minister Ersoy made a statement, indicating that only municipalities could issue fire safety certificates for hotels, and said, "The report revealed 8 main faults. Evacuation exits, illuminated directional signs, emergency lighting, the suitability of the electrical installation, detection systems, and fire alarms, smoke ventilation, and evacuation. After making this determination, there cannot actually be a withdrawal issue. These deficiencies were found throughout the facility. Normally, where is the upper authority that will issue this certificate? The Provincial Special Administration. It is necessary to inform the Provincial Special Administration or the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. There is an obligation for this," he stated.
