A Turkmen commander has been appointed to northern Syria.

The commander of the 2nd Corps of the Syrian National Army, Fehim İsa, has been appointed as the Deputy Minister of Defense and the Commander of the Northern Region by the new administration. İsa, who is of Turkmen descent, is seen as a message to the YPG/PKK terrorist organization, which has been persistently demanding military governance in the northern part of the country. On the other hand, Fehim İsa had visited the Chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), Devlet Bahçeli, in July 2023.

After the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime, a new appointment has been made in the restructuring process of the Syrian army. Fehim Ertuğrul İsa, who was the Commander of the 2nd Corps within the former Syrian National Army (SNA), has been given a new task.

TURKMEN COMMANDER WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR NORTHERN SYRIA

Isa, who is of Turkmen origin, has been appointed as the Deputy Minister of Defense of the New Syrian Army and the Commander of the Northern Region. With this appointment, the military control of a wide area in northern Syria, especially including the rural areas of Aleppo, has passed to Fehim İsa.

YPG/PKK'S REQUEST REMAINS UNANSWERED

The task given to Fehim İsa, known as a direct target of terrorist organizations in the region, has dashed the dreams of the YPG/PKK terrorist organization. The appointment was made during a process that terrorist organizations trying to establish influence in the region are closely monitoring. While the YPG/PKK is known to aspire to military control in northern Syria, the assignment of the Turkmen commander has left these requests unanswered.
