In the horrific accident that occurred when a light commercial vehicle carrying summer course students on their return from a trip in Istanbul's Küçükçekmece district went out of control and crashed into barriers and a direction sign pole, 13 children were injured, 5 of them seriously. The vehicle driver, who was taken into custody, was brought to the police station.
The accident occurred at the Florya side road on the D-100 (E-5) Highway in the Besyol neighborhood of Kucukcekmece. According to the information obtained, the light commercial vehicle with license plate 34 HAU 406, driven by M.K., which was transporting students from a summer course operating in Beylikduzu on their way back from a trip, crashed first into the barriers at the junction and then into the pole with the direction sign after the driver lost control of the steering wheel.
SCENE TURNED INTO A BATTLEFIELD: 5 CHILDREN IN SERIOUS CONDITION
While 13 children in the vehicle, which climbed onto the barriers due to the force of the impact, were injured, the scene turned into a veritable battlefield. As nearby citizens rushed to help the children, numerous police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene upon the notification.
The injured children, who received first aid from medical teams arriving at the scene, were taken to nearby hospitals by ambulances. It was learned that 5 of the children hospitalized for treatment are in serious condition. The vehicle driver, M.K., was taken into custody by police teams and brought to the police station.
"IT WENT ONTO THE MEDIAN AT HIGH SPEED"
Eren Yerdelen, a citizen who witnessed the accident, stated that the vehicle was very fast, saying, "A black vehicle went onto the median at high speed, 150-160 kilometers per hour. It crashed into the barriers. This road is very dangerous, there are accidents 1-2 times every week. Authorities need to find a solution to this. There were injured people, they were taken to the hospital by ambulance. Later, police teams arrived and took security measures."
TRAFFIC RETURNED TO NORMAL, ACCIDENT SITE FILMED FROM THE AIR
After the horrific accident, the vehicle, which turned into a pile of scrap metal, was removed from the scene with the help of a tow truck. The long vehicle queues on the E-5 Highway caused by the accident gave way to normal traffic flow after the road was cleaned and the vehicle was towed away. Meanwhile, the accident site, where the scene had turned into a battlefield, was filmed from the air.
The investigation launched by police teams into the accident continues.
