65-year-old Asuman Yalçınkaya, who came to her hometown Çorum from Ankara, started staying at Çıkrık Village Cemetery because she had no place to stay. Yalçınkaya, who said she sometimes spent the night at the graves of her grandmother and uncle, said, "I share my troubles with them." Yalçınkaya, who said her only wish was a small rented house, was placed in a guesthouse belonging to Çorum Municipality upon the gendarmerie's initiative after her situation was reported.
The struggle for life of 65-year-old Asuman Yalçınkaya, who has no place to stay in Çorum, drew attention. After staying at AŞTİ in Ankara for a while and then at Şefkat Evleri, Yalçınkaya returned to her hometown Çorum. However, when she could not find a place to stay here either, she began to stay in Çıkrık Village Cemetery.
"THE CEMETERY IS SAFER THAN BIG CITIES"
Yalçınkaya, who said she has no relatives, explained that she sometimes has to spend the night in the cemetery.
Describing her situation with the words "The cemetery is safer than big cities," Yalçınkaya stated that she chose the cemetery because she had no other option.
The 65-year-old woman, who also expressed her fear of staying there, said, "Of course, I am very afraid, but I have no place to sleep or stay. So I chose this place. I sometimes spend the night here."
SPENDING THE NIGHT BY THE GRAVES OF RELATIVES
Another reason Yalçınkaya chose the cemetery is that her relatives who passed away are buried there.
Yalçınkaya, who said she visits the graves of her grandmother and uncle, stated that she sometimes spends the night by their graves.
Yalçınkaya narrated her experiences, saying, "I share my troubles with them, and this relieves me. I am very emotional; sometimes I cry and feel better."
"I WANT A HOUSE, EVEN IF IT'S A SINGLE ROOM"
Stating that she has no financial means, Yalçınkaya's biggest wish is to have a small house where she can live.
Asking for support from businesspeople and philanthropists, Yalçınkaya said, "Even a single room is enough. I want to have a room, boil my soup, and not be dependent on anyone."
Yalçınkaya, who also stated that she has various health issues, said that her financial situation is not enough to rent a house on her own and that she wants a house with even a few belongings.
After the 65-year-old woman's stay in the cemetery was reported to the authorities, gendarmerie teams stepped in.
As a result of the efforts, Asuman Yalçınkaya was rescued from staying in the cemetery and placed in a guesthouse owned by Çorum Municipality.
