A 30-year-old woman arriving in Johannesburg, South Africa, was arrested after an X-ray revealed she was carrying dozens of "cocaine capsules" in her stomach. The woman had swallowed the drug packages before boarding a flight from Sao Paulo, Brazil, to OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. Following a tip-off about a drug smuggler on the plane, police apprehended the woman as soon as she passed through passport control. The X-ray taken at the airport revealed the stock of drugs in her stomach, and the woman was immediately taken to the hospital. So far, more than 60 drug-filled capsules have been removed. National police spokesperson Tuggeneral Athlenda Mathe stated, "Our team apprehended the drug courier immediately as she passed through passport control. She was promptly arrested and taken to a local hospital, where a medical X-ray confirmed the presence of foreign objects in her stomach." Mathe added, "As the process of removing all suspected drugs from the suspect's body will take time, the value of the drugs cannot be determined at this stage." Police Chief Fannie Masemola praised the efforts of the police to uncover criminals at OR Tambo International Airport. Masemola stated, "South Africa is not a playground for criminals and international organized crime syndicates. We are tightening the space for criminals and leaving nothing to chance."
