Despite having a finalized 65-year prison sentence for theft in Samsun, Saniye G., an 8-time mother accused of continuously giving birth to children to avoid imprisonment by exploiting loopholes in the execution law, was arrested and sent to prison following her latest crime. The woman, who received an additional 3 years and 9 months of imprisonment, saw her "baby escape" strategy hit a judicial wall when the court judge escalated the issue to the Ministry of Justice, requesting a legal regulation.
In Samsun, an incredible method used by a woman trying to escape justice by exploiting gaps in the legal system has been intercepted by the judiciary. Saniye G., a mother of 8 children with decades of prison sentences against her, came to the forefront with allegations that she continuously gave birth to delay her sentence. However, her latest theft case disrupted this "birth cycle."
ESCAPE FROM A 65-YEAR SENTENCE WITH "BABIES"
The crime record of 31-year-old Saniye G., living in the İlkadım district of Samsun, is quite extensive. It was revealed that the woman, with a total of 60 separate criminal records for home burglary, has a finalized prison sentence of 65 years, 10 months, and 10 days. Despite this, it was claimed that thanks to her 8 children—the oldest being 13 and the youngest only 6 months old—she repeatedly postponed entering prison by benefiting from the legal regulation for "mothers with babies."
HER LAST CRIME WAS COMMITTED WITH HER SON
Following the theft of approximately 20,000 Turkish Liras in cash from a house in the Zafer neighborhood, teams from the Public Order Branch Directorate's Theft Bureau took action. Through meticulous tracking, it was determined that Saniye G. and her 13-year-old son Ç.G. committed the theft. The mother and son, apprehended by police teams, were referred to the courthouse.
COURT ISSUES A STOP ORDER: THIS TIME SENT TO PRISON
This time, plans did not work out for Saniye G., whose execution had been postponed each time due to having a baby. The woman, brought before the judge on March 13, 2026, was arrested by the court panel and sent to Samsun Closed Prison. In today's final hearing, the presiding judge sentenced Saniye G. to an additional 3 years, 9 months, and 18 days in prison for theft and violation of domicile immunity, ruling for the continuation of her detention.
REVISION DEMAND IN THE LAW: NUMBER OF CHILDREN SHOULD BE LIMITED
The most striking aspect of the incident came from the judiciary side. The Samsun 2nd Criminal Judgeship of Peace, who arrested Saniye G., reported that the defendant had given birth to multiple children with the aim of evading execution by abusing existing laws.
The judge, who brought the matter to the Ministry of Justice's General Directorate of Legislation, made a historic proposal suggesting that benefiting from the right to postpone execution should be limited to a specific number of children through an amendment to the Turkish Penal Code. If this proposal is accepted, the era of "giving birth to delay execution" may legally come to an end.
