CHP Kayseri Deputy Aşkın Genç strongly reacted to a post by Turkish Red Crescent Kayseri Branch President Cafer Beydilli, allegedly targeting women. Genç called for Beydilli's dismissal.
“TARGETING WOMEN'S RIGHTS”
CHP Kayseri Deputy Aşkın Genç made a written statement regarding a video shared by Turkish Red Crescent Kayseri Branch President Cafer Beydilli on his social media account. Stating that the post targets women's right to education, their place in working life, and the secular legal order of the Republic, Genç said, “This understanding openly challenges the secular Republic founded by Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the rights women have won through years of struggle.”
“REPUBLICAN REVOLUTIONS OPENLY CHALLENGED”
In his statement, Aşkın Genç alleged that the video advocates for women's withdrawal from public life, questions girls' right to education, and openly calls for sharia law.
Genç stated the following: “Republican women won their right to education, the right to vote and be elected, and their place in social life not with someone's permission, but through a great struggle led by Atatürk. No one can dictate to women how to live, whether to study or not, or whether to work or not.”
“THE RED CRESCENT MUST BE AN IMPARTIAL INSTITUTION”
Stating that the Red Crescent should be an institution representing the common conscience of society, Genç argued that the institution has been on the agenda with various controversies in recent years. In his statement, Genç also recalled the tent controversies during the earthquake period and allegations that a building in Kayseri, reportedly donated on the condition of being used as a “blood center,” was used for different purposes.
“MUST BE IMMEDIATELY REMOVED FROM OFFICE”
CHP member Genç called on the Turkish Red Crescent Headquarters to take action regarding Cafer Beydilli. “Immediate action must be taken regarding this post, Cafer Beydilli must be removed from office, and an explicit apology must be made to the public,” said Genç, emphasizing that the Republic of Turkey is a secular, democratic, and social state governed by the rule of law.
“WOMEN WILL CONTINUE TO EXIST IN EVERY FIELD”
Aşkın Genç concluded his statement with the following remarks: “The women of this country will continue to exist in school, business life, politics, production, and every area of life. We will not remain silent to any understanding that targets the values of the Republic, secularism, and women's equal citizenship rights.”
