A 25-year-old young man, who entered the Ilısu Dam Lake to cool off in the Hasankeyf district of Batman, lost his life after being swept away by the current. According to the information obtained, the incident occurred in the Üçyol village area of Hasankeyf district. Serhat Songur (25), who entered the Ilısu Dam Lake to cool off during the summer heat, suddenly disappeared from sight and was swept away by the current while swimming. Citizens nearby, noticing the young man struggling and being carried away by the current, immediately jumped into the water and raced against time to rescue Songur.
DESPITE ALL INTERVENTIONS, HE COULD NOT BE SAVED
He was pulled out of the water with the intense efforts of the citizens. Upon notification, health and security teams were quickly dispatched to the scene. Serhat Songur, who was taken to Batman Training and Research Hospital by ambulance with serious injuries, could not be saved despite all interventions.
The gendarmerie has launched an investigation into the incident.
