Polls have opened in the state of Michigan ahead of the midterm elections to be held in November in the US. Abdul El-Sayed, a politician of Egyptian descent, won the fiercely contested primary to determine the Democratic Party's Senate candidate.
In the closely contested race, El-Sayed won by a narrow margin, receiving 48.5% of the votes against his rival, US House of Representatives member Haley Stevens, who remained at 47.5%.

By defeating his House of Representatives rival Haley Stevens, El-Sayed earned the right to become the Democratic Party's official Senate candidate. HEAVY ACCUSATION FROM TRUMP: BE PREPARED FOR A RIGGED ELECTION
US President Donald Trump, however, made harsh claims about the integrity of the vote after El-Sayed secured the Democratic Party's Senate nomination.
Speaking on his Truth Social platform, Trump targeted Wayne County, which includes Detroit, calling it "one of the most corrupt election districts not just in America, but perhaps in the world."
THE CLAIM: MORE VOTES THAN THE NUMBER OF VOTERS
Criticizing the voting process without providing concrete evidence, Trump stated, "Miracles are happening in Wayne County; for example, far more votes are being cast than the number of registered voters." Trump's message came just before the Associated Press announced the official results.
"A COMMUNIST LOSER"
In the continuation of his post, Trump warned that "fake mail-in ballots" could be introduced at the last minute, urging voters to "Be prepared for another rigged election."
Continuing to target El-Sayed in subsequent messages, Trump described the Democratic candidate as a "Communist loser" and accused him of "hating Jews and Israel."
SUPPORT FOR ROGERS FOR THE NOVEMBER ELECTIONS
Despite this picture, Trump, who described El-Sayed's victory as "great news for the Republican Party," asked for support for his own candidate, former House of Representatives member Mike Rogers, who ran unopposed in the primary.
