Misty Roberts, the former mayor of DeRidder, Louisiana, confessed to sexually abusing a 16-year-old boy. The incident occurred during her tenure as mayor at a pool party she hosted at her home.
Former mayor of DeRidder, Louisiana, Misty Roberts, admitted in court to sexually abusing a 16-year-old boy. Roberts, who tried to "involve her children in the lie," faces up to 10 years in prison.
The incident occurred during Roberts' (43) term as mayor in July 2024. According to the indictment, Roberts took a 16-year-old boy, who was reportedly intoxicated, to a room on the upper floor of the villa during a pool party at her home. It was learned that the victim was a friend of Roberts' own son and that the suspect's children were also present at the time.
Chilling details emerged during the trial process. It was revealed that Roberts pressured her children to keep the incident quiet and sent one of them a message saying, "Lie until you die." This statement was also confirmed in court by Roberts' ex-husband, Duncan Clanton.
Another notable point among the evidence presented in court was an order placed through a delivery app. It was determined that Roberts requested "the morning-after pill" immediately after the incident. In her text messages with the victim's mother, she was seen trying to "comfort" the woman by stating that she had used the pill.
Following the public revelation of the scandal and the initiation of a sexual assault investigation against a minor, Roberts resigned from her position as mayor. However, her resignation letter did not mention the allegations against her.
Roberts, who is under house arrest with a $75,000 bail, was found guilty by the court. The final sentence for the former mayor will be announced at a hearing scheduled for April 17. Roberts is expected to serve up to 10 years in prison.
