The Israeli navy, which attacked the Global Sumud Fleet heading towards Gaza in international waters to break the blockade and deliver humanitarian aid, disembarked the detained activists on the island of Crete. Among the activists are 20 Turkish citizens.

The Global Sumud Fleet set sail on April 26 with the aim of breaking Israel's blockade of Gaza and delivering vital humanitarian aid. On the night of April 29, in international waters off the coast of Crete Island, the Israeli army illegally intervened and attacked the boats carrying activists. 

MORE THAN 170 ACTIVISTS DETAINED

In the attack launched by the Israeli army by encircling the fleet off Crete, more than 170 activists were detained. According to AFP's report; the activists, including 20 Turkish citizens, were taken to the island of Crete.

GLOBAL SUMUD FLEET

The Global Sumud Fleet 2026 Spring Mission, aiming to break Israel's blockade of Gaza and deliver vital humanitarian aid, set sail from Barcelona, Spain, on April 12 into the Mediterranean.

After joining participants from Sicily, Italy, the fleet set off again on April 26, and on the night of April 29, in international waters off Crete Island, the Israeli army illegally intervened and attacked the boats carrying activists.

According to information provided by fleet officials, the boats carried 345 participants from 39 different countries, including Turks.

Global Sumud Fleet officials reported that the Israeli army detained 21 boats in the attack, 17 surviving boats entered Greek territorial waters, and 14 boats were sailing toward Greek territorial waters.
