Within the scope of the fund investigation, following the arrest of former minister Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya, striking statements came from AK Party member Şamil Tayyar. Describing the arrest decision as the "deepest" decision of the operation, Tayyar said, "Be prepared for major surprises not only in the judicial but also in the administrative and political spheres." Tayyar claimed that President Erdoğan opened all doors for a "reckoning."
In the fund investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into transactions carried out in the capital markets, an arrest warrant was issued for former minister Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya. Kaya's husband İlyas Kaya and former Capital Markets Board (CMB) Chairman İbrahim Ömer Gönül were released under judicial control conditions. Following this development in the investigation, AK Party member Şamil Tayyar argued that the arrest decision could have significant consequences in the political and administrative spheres as well.
HERE ARE THE CHARGES THAT LED TO THE ARREST
Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Bureau of Investigation into Terrorism Financing and Money Laundering Offenses, Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya, whose statement was taken at the prosecutor's office, was referred to the magistrate's court with a request for arrest on charges of "membership in a criminal organization" and "opposing the Capital Markets Law." Kaya's husband İlyas Kaya and former CMB Chairman İbrahim Ömer Gönül were sent to the court with a request for judicial control measures in the form of a signing requirement and a travel ban abroad. The court ruled for Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya's arrest on the two charges, while ordering the release of İlyas Kaya and İbrahim Ömer Gönül under judicial control conditions.
"THE 'DEEPEST' DECISION IN THE FUND OPERATION"
After the arrest decision, AK Party member Şamil Tayyar, making a statement on his social media account, argued that the development was unexpected.
Tayyar used the following statements in his post:
"Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya's arrest is, in terms of its consequences, the 'deepest' decision in the fund operation. Let alone the ruling party base, even the opposition mostly did not believe that an arrest decision would be issued."
"KAYA'S BEING DESCRIBED AS A MEMBER OF A CRIMINAL ORGANIZATION IS STRIKING"
In the continuation of his statement, Tayyar drew attention to Kaya's arrest on the charge of "membership in a criminal organization."
Saying "Kaya's being described as a 'member of a criminal organization' is the most striking aspect of the decision," Tayyar used the following statements:
"What they did may have been left for tomorrow, but no one got away with it, and no one will. Wait and see."
The allegation of criminal organization membership against Kaya is a charge brought within the scope of the investigation and does not mean a final conviction.
"BE PREPARED FOR BIG SURPRISES IN THE POLITICAL SPHERE AS WELL"
The most striking part of Tayyar's statement, however, concerned the consequences he claimed the investigation could produce in the coming period.
Saying "Be prepared for big surprises not only in the judicial field but also in the administrative and political spheres," Tayyar also made the following assessment regarding President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan:
"Our President @RTErdogan has opened all doors for a 'reckoning.'"
