Leaders of opposition parties in Israel reacted to Tel Aviv's absence from the announcement of a temporary ceasefire with Iran, stating, "Netanyahu has failed politically and strategically. We have never experienced such a great political disaster in our history."
U.S. President Trump's announcement that he accepted a two-week mutual temporary ceasefire with Iran on the condition that the Strait of Hormuz is completely opened has led to strong reactions from the Israeli opposition against the government.
"POLITICAL DISASTER"
Former Israeli Prime Minister and leader of the main opposition party "There is a Future," Yair Lapid, stated in a post on the U.S.-based X company's social media platform, "We have never experienced such a great political disaster in our history. While decisions concerning the foundation of our national security (temporary ceasefire) were being made, Israel was not even at the table."
"NETANYAHU FAILED TO ACHIEVE EVEN ONE OF HIS GOALS"
Lapid reacted to Israel not being at the table when the temporary ceasefire decision with Iran was made, saying, "Netanyahu has failed politically and strategically. He has not achieved even one of the goals he set for himself. Repairing the political and strategic damage caused by Netanyahu's arrogance, negligence, and lack of strategic planning will take us years."
"WE WILL HAVE TO RETURN TO A NEW CONFLICT"
Avigdor Liberman, leader of the Israel Our Home Party, also reacted to the temporary ceasefire decision in a statement on the U.S.-based X company's social media platform, saying:
"The ceasefire with Iran gives the Ayatollah regime a breathing space and an opportunity to reorganize. Any agreement that does not include abandoning the goal of destroying Israel, stopping uranium enrichment, ending ballistic missile production, and cutting off support to terrorist organizations in the region means that we will have to return to a new conflict under much more difficult conditions, paying a heavier price in the future."
NETANYAHU LIED
Yair Golan, leader of the Democratic Party, also stated in a post on the U.S.-based X company's social media platform, "Netanyahu lied; despite promising a historic victory and security for generations, in practice, he has signed one of the heaviest strategic failures in Israel's history."
Golan noted, "In this process, there were civilian casualties, heroic soldiers fell as martyrs, and the entire country was trapped in shelters. Although the Israeli army fulfilled its duties with superior strength and achieved significant successes, the Netanyahu-Smotrich-Ben Gvir government once again failed to turn these gains into a real victory."
Pointing out that none of the goals were achieved and that the Iranian regime emerged stronger from this process, Golan stated:
"Today, Iran holds enriched uranium and is in a position to dictate terms with its control over the Strait of Hormuz. Israel, just like in Gaza, has once again become ineffective by remaining outside the decision-making table. The resulting picture is the same again. Due to a failed, extremist, and dangerous government that cannot turn military successes into political security, the army wins while Israel loses. As a result, this situation is not a historic victory but an absolute failure that endangers Israel's security for the coming years."
U.S. President Trump had announced that he accepted a two-week mutual temporary ceasefire with Iran on the condition that the Strait of Hormuz is completely opened.
THE OPPOSITION HAD SUPPORTED ATTACKS ON IRAN AND LEBANON
Although the Israeli opposition reacted to the temporary ceasefire decision, it had drawn attention by supporting the initiation of attacks on Iran and Lebanon.
Lapid, who supported Israel's attacks on Lebanon and Iran, stated in a statement on April 6, "We have no doubt about our army. They are doing a magnificent job and writing glorious pages in the history of Israel. Strategic victory means regime change in Iran, eliminating the nuclear threat, neutralizing the ballistic threat, and crushing Hezbollah. Strategic victory means destroying the infrastructure of the Iranian economy (I have been advocating this since April 2024)."
Golan also stated in a post on the U.S.-based X company's social media platform on April 6, "We have heroic women and men fighters. We have excellent women and men commanders. We have a tremendous army that knows how to fight and win. The only thing we lack is a government that knows how to turn victories into lasting gains."
Liberman, in a post on the U.S.-based X company's social media platform on February 28, referred to the ancient Persian empire's minister who wanted to kill the Jews according to the Torah narrative, stating, "Just as we overcame Haman, we will also overcome Khamenei."
