The ugly attack on CHP Chairman Özgür Özel has caused a strong reaction, while AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik met face-to-face with Özgür Özel and Sırrı Süreyya Önder at the funeral. Çelik conveyed his wishes for a speedy recovery to the CHP leader.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel was attacked with a fist during the farewell ceremony held at the Atatürk Cultural Center in Taksim for the late Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly and DEM Party Istanbul Deputy Sırrı Süreyya Önder.
HAD A CRIMINAL RECORD FOR KILLING 2 CHILDREN
The 66-year-old attacker was reported to have a criminal record for killing 2 children in Hatay in 2004.
GET WELL SOON MESSAGES POURING IN FOR ÖZEL
President Erdoğan called Özel to convey his get well soon wishes, while MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli condemned the attack and expressed strong reactions. Meanwhile, other political figures also condemned the attack and sent their get well soon wishes to Özel.
