Debates on the removal of immunities in politics have reignited with recent statements by Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, and a noteworthy visit decision has emerged in Ankara's backstage. It has been reported that Kılıçdaroğlu, the focal point of criticism, will meet with former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who is detained in Edirne Prison.
NECDET SARAÇ ANNOUNCED IT LIVE
The first information about Kılıçdaroğlu's visit decision, which has stirred the political agenda, came from Necdet Saraç, known for his closeness to him. Participating in a live broadcast on Habertürk, Saraç made important assessments on the matter and announced to the public that the visit will take place in the coming days.
"WE WILL LISTEN TO HIS STATEMENT AFTER THE VISIT"
In his live broadcast speech, Saraç also indirectly responded to criticisms directed at Kılıçdaroğlu, pointing to after the visit with these words:
"In the coming days, Kemal Bey will visit Mr. Selahattin Demirtaş at Edirne Prison. You can keep laughing. We have seen those laughing at Kemal Bey before. I think we should be careful. We will all listen to Kemal Bey's statement after the Selahattin Demirtaş visit."
HATİMOĞULLARI: WE WOULD HAVE EXPECTED AN APOLOGY
Following Kılıçdaroğlu's statements, DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları, appearing on Halk TV, emphasized that they expected an apology from Kılıçdaroğlu on this issue. Hatimoğulları said, "I watched Kılıçdaroğlu. We openly expected him to apologize," stating that they expected an expression of regret.
Hatimoğulları also noted that it was known from the beginning of the process that many politicians would be arrested if immunities were lifted, and stated, "To say 'I was wrong, I was misled' is a virtue. He still defends it. We do not accept that. The logic that arrested our friends back then is the same logic that appoints trustees today."
WHAT WAS THE CONTROVERSIAL IMMUNITY STATEMENT?
Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's surprise visit decision came right after his controversial remarks during a live broadcast.
In the program, when reminded of his past support for lifting parliamentary immunity and faced with the comment, "When you last did this, Selahattin Demirtaş was arrested, you know," Kılıçdaroğlu responded, "Mr. Selahattin already had a majority, there were terrorism charges against him."
Confirming that they voted in favor of lifting all immunities, Kılıçdaroğlu firmly replied "No" to the question "Are you sorry?" drawing reactions from the political arena and the DEM Party front.
