Following the disaster in which Filo Jet, carrying 267 people, capsized off the coast of Kyrenia, a critical decision was made regarding maritime transport in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The Ministry of Public Works and Transport announced that all voyages conducted by the ship's operator, Filo Denizcilik, from the TRNC have been suspended until further notice.
A new decision has come from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) following the ship disaster that occurred off the coast of Kyrenia on August 30, in which 8 people lost their lives and 18 people are missing. The Ministry of Public Works and Transportation announced that all sea voyages conducted from the country by the ship's operator, Filo Denizcilik, have been suspended until further notice.
AKGÜNLER DENİZCİLİK WILL BEGIN VOYAGES
According to the Ministry's statement, in order to ensure the continuity of maritime transport, Akgünler Denizcilik will begin its TRNC-Turkey voyages starting September 1. It was reported that the voyages will be carried out along the route determined by the Coast Guard Command.
4 ADDITIONAL FLIGHTS FROM PEGASUS
Following the disaster, measures were also taken on the airline side to create an alternative for transportation. Pegasus Airlines added 4 additional flights for September 1 only. It was stated that the company has started selling discounted tickets for the flights to be made.
SHIP WITH 267 PEOPLE ON BOARD CAPSIZED
Filo Jet, owned by Filo Denizcilik, started taking on water shortly after departing from Kyrenia Port to Taşucu on August 30. The ship capsized while trying to return to the port.
There were 267 people on board, including 259 passengers and 8 crew members. In the accident, 241 people were rescued, 8 people lost their lives, and search and rescue efforts continued for 18 people.
Following the accident, legal proceedings were also initiated against the captain and the crew. The investigation into the exact cause of the disaster is ongoing.
