Ahmet Türk, who is part of the İmralı delegation of the DEM Party, spoke for the first time following the call for the dissolution and disarmament of the terrorist organization PKK. Türk stated, "There is a step that needs to be taken regarding the future of a democratic Turkey. This is an expectation. These are not negotiations; it is about the democratization of Turkey and embracing its own people, its own citizens."
Ahmet Türk, a member of the İmralı delegation of the DEM Party, stated regarding the PKK's decision to disband, "What is important is Turkey's democratization, the resolution of issues in a democratic Republic." Emphasizing the need for a commission to be established in the Parliament with the participation of all political parties, Türk said, "There are steps to be taken regarding the future of a democratic Turkey. This is an expectation. These are not negotiations; it is about Turkey's democratization, embracing its own people and citizens."
"WHAT IS IMPORTANT IS TURKEY'S DEMOCRATIZATION"
Ahmet Türk, along with the late Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Sırrı Süreyya Önder, and Van MP Pervin Buldan, came to the Parliament to attend the group meeting of the DEM Party. Before the group meeting, Türk made a statement regarding the PKK's decision to disband, saying, "Of course, it was a decision we expected. Previously, Mr. Öcalan had already made a statement on this matter. We anticipated that the organization would comply with Öcalan's call; we knew it. Congratulations. What is important is Turkey's democratization. It is about resolving issues in a democratic Republic," he evaluated.
"THE PARLIAMENT MUST FULFILL ITS DUTY"
Stating that there are duties for the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Ahmet Türk said, "The Parliament must fulfill its duty. Ultimately, it will come to the Parliament. Our Parliament, with all its groups and political parties, needs to take a role that will contribute to the peace of this country. It is beneficial to form a commission in the Parliament with the participation of all political parties," he expressed.
"THESE ARE NOT NEGOTIATIONS"
In response to the question of how progress is expected in practice from now on, Ahmet Türk said, "We will see over time. Of course, there are expectations. Steps need to be taken regarding the future of a democratic Republic and a democratic Turkey. This is an expectation. These are not negotiations; it is about Turkey's democratization, embracing its own people and citizens."
WILL THERE BE A NEW VISIT TO İMRALI?
In response to the question of whether a new visit to İmralı is on the agenda, Türk said, "We don't know. If the conditions are created over time, of course, it will be visited." Regarding whether Abdullah Öcalan's release through the "right to hope" is a possibility, Ahmet Türk replied, "There is no point in discussing that right now."
