The statement made by MHP General Chairman Devlet Bahçeli after shaking hands with the DEM Party members during the opening of the Parliament, and his remark at the group meeting, "The hand I extend is an invitation and proposal to become a party of Turkey, to stand against terrorism," along with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's words at the group meeting, "We hope that the value of the hand extended by the People's Alliance will be understood by its counterparts. Our expectation is that all political parties in the parliament will act with this approach without any discrimination," has sparked discussions about "Is a new resolution process coming?"
IS A NEW RESOLUTION PROCESS BEGINNING?
Kurdish politician and Co-Chair of Mardin Metropolitan Municipality, Ahmet Türk, responded to the question "Will a new opening-resolution process begin?" by saying, "We don't know. Time will tell. We should neither undervalue nor exaggerate these statements."
"AN INCLUSIVE POLICY IS ESSENTIAL"
Responding to questions from Aytunç Erkin of Sözcü, Türk stated that they value the statements made, saying, "If you cannot internalize that Kurds are a people with rights, you cannot solve anything. Secondly, in a period when the Middle East is in a ring of fire, an inclusive policy is essential. We agree with this. A democratic constitution is necessary! This cannot be just words. On one side, politicians need to prepare society as well. You cannot solve it without preparing society and the media. There needs to be a sincerity test."
"KURDS HAVE ALSO SEEN THAT THIS CANNOT BE SOLVED WITH WEAPONS"
Expressing that there has been a greeting and that they value these statements, Türk continued, "It is valuable to have an environment where politicians can converse with each other. Kurds have also begun to see that this cannot be solved with weapons. If the right steps are taken, there will be no problems."
"WE ARE A TURKISH PARTY"
Ahmet Türk, who said, "We have been a Turkish party from the beginning," added, "It is also a responsibility to reveal the realities of Turkey. There are different identities and beliefs... When you advocate this, do you stop being a Turkish party? No! These need to be discussed for a democratic republic. When you say these things, you are labeled as a 'separatist.' I have been in politics for 33 years. We have had no other thought than to unite society around common values."
