The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that ISIS leader Abu Yusuf was killed in a targeted attack.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced today that ISIS leader Abu Yusuf was killed in a targeted/precision strike carried out by CENTCOM yesterday.

CENTCOM stated that it killed ISIS leader Abu Yusuf in a targeted strike in Syria's Deir ez-Zor province. In a statement made today via the social media platform X, CENTCOM said, "On December 19, the U.S. Central Command conducted an airstrike targeting ISIS leader Abu Yusuf aka Mahmud in Syria's Deir ez-Zor province, resulting in the deaths of two ISIS members, including Abu Yusuf."

"IT IS PART OF OUR DETERMINATION"

The statement also included, "This airstrike is part of CENTCOM's ongoing determination to disrupt and deter terrorists' efforts to plan, organize, and carry out attacks against civilians and military personnel from the U.S., our allies, and partners, in conjunction with our partners in the region. The strike was carried out in an area previously controlled by the Syrian regime and Russians."

"WE WILL TARGET AGGRESSIVELY"

CENTCOM Commander Michael Erik Kurilla stated regarding the operation: "The U.S., working with its allies and partners in the region, will not allow ISIS to exploit and rebuild from the current situation in Syria, as previously stated. ISIS intends to facilitate the escape of over 8,000 ISIS members currently held in prisons in Syria. We will target these leaders and operatives aggressively, including those attempting to conduct operations outside of Syria."
