AK Party Group Chairman Abdullah Güler: There is no regulation regarding weekly working hours.

AK Party Group Chairman Abdullah Güler: There is no regulation regarding weekly working hours.

30.08.2024 18:40

AK Party Group Chairman Abdullah Güler said that there is no regulation regarding weekly working hours. Güler stated, "There is no such work on our agenda in terms of both weekly working hours and days. However, with the pandemic, shorter working hours and more flexible working models are being recommended and implemented in certain sectors and certain professional groups, both by employers and employees."

AK Party Group Chairman Abdullah Güler, who stated that there is no regulation regarding weekly working hours, said, "There is no such work on our agenda in terms of both weekly working hours and days. However, with the pandemic, shorter working hours and more flexible working models are being recommended and implemented in certain sectors and certain professional groups, both by employers and employees."

AK Party Group Chairman Abdullah Güler made a statement regarding the allegations that the retirement system will be updated, the weekly working hours will be reduced, and some cases will be directly sent to the Court of Cassation without going to the Court of Appeals. Güler stated that while examining the retirement system, examples from around the world should be taken into consideration and said the following: "If we take the practice in developed countries as a basis, three main factors stand out in retirement. The amount of premium you pay, the duration you pay, and age. In developed countries in Europe, you cannot come across retirement at the ages of 40, 45, and 50 as in our country. The retirement age in Europe is 65, 67. Some countries even have a retirement age of 70."

AK PARTY'S GÜLER: "WE NEED TO BUILD A BALANCED RETIREMENT SYSTEM"

This is important in terms of sustainability. When we look at the world average, there is one retiree for every 3 to 4 workers. However, when we look at our country, we see that there are currently about 32 million workers and around 16.1 million retirees. In other words, we see that there is 1 retiree for every 2 workers. In this sense, we must definitely build a retirement system that is more fair, balanced, and sustainable, based on both the amount of premium paid and the age and duration of payment. Our citizens should also reach a retirement pension according to the choice they have made."

Güler stated that with the support of the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, the minimum retirement pension is 12,500 Turkish Lira and used the following statements: "If this support is not implemented, the retirement pension will be at a lower rate. Therefore, this situation should be corrected, this situation should become sustainable; we need to make it more balanced, more fair. Hopefully, in the coming periods, we need to implement a similar practice, based on this system that developed countries also apply, in our country."

"WE NEED TO PRESENT EXAMPLES OF DEVELOPED COUNTRIES"

Currently, we need to have new consultations with all segments of our society and present examples from around the world, examples from developed countries. Within this framework, we need to present this in a more reasonable framework. Of course, our ministry has work on this issue, but we do not have a text for a legal regulation at the moment. We need to work on this in a broader framework in the coming period."

"NO REGULATION REGARDING WEEKLY WORKING HOURS"

Güler, stating that there is no work on reducing weekly working hours in the public and private sectors, continued his words as follows: "There is no such work. There is no such work on our agenda in terms of both weekly working hours and days. However, with the pandemic, shorter working hours and more flexible working models are being recommended and implemented in certain sectors and certain professional groups, both by employers and employees."

"THERE ARE ONLY PROPOSALS REGARDING CERTAIN PROFESSIONS"

In this regard, if possible, there are some proposals and offers that can work only in certain professional fields and in the execution of certain professions, such as remote working models in shorter weekly working hours on certain days. It can be possible in this aspect. Otherwise, we do not have any regulation regarding the reduction of weekly working days or weekly working hours in our current working life. There is currently no work that will be implemented."
